Rick Ross On Eminem: 'I'm Not Impressed With The Music'

Rick Ross On Eminem: 'I'm Not Impressed With The Music'

While claiming to be “past” his on-going feud with 50 Cent, Def Jam recording artist Rick Ross continues to be vocal in the press about his disdain for his rival and those affiliated to him.

In a recent interview with Canadian television network Much Music, Ross takes more jabs at the G-Unit/Shady camp.

According to MuchMusic.com, Ross revealed that despite his recent challenge to Eminem, he remains a fan of Shady Records’ flagship artist.

However, he isn’t very impressed with Em’s latest releases.

“I’m just not impressed with the music I’m hearing,” the Miami rapper stated. “But hopefully, Imma buy his album when it come out, if it don’t disappoint me too bad. You know, we’ll see.”

The comment comes just weeks after Ross told MTV News that he would be interested in being involved with Eminem’s highly anticipated fifth major label release, Relapse, due out May 19.

While Ross did not necessarily indicate a desire to continue a rivalry with Eminem, he did continue his war of words with 50’s G-Unit camp in the new interview, which is set to air on an upcoming episode of MuchNewsWeekly.

“I done put out a number one album, and you know, I finished those guys. G-Unit was dropped from Interscope,” he added, clapping. “They still can’t dress, they’re monkeys, but that’ll never change.”

While the beef between 50 Cent and Rick Ross may not go down in Hip-Hop history for the actual rhymes exchanged, it does stand out as one of the most entertaining, employing tactics including animated videos, X-Rated videos and outings with the mother of one of Ross’ children.

Asked if he felt 50 Cent had taken things too far, the portly Slip-N-Slide recruit explained that as long as the beef did not escalate to gun violence, one could not say it had “gone too far.”

“Where I come from, you need AK-47s to go far," he explained. "Anything short of that, we'll label you a girl, kick you in the butt and send you home, and that's pretty much what I did."

Rick Ross’s third studio release, Deeper Than Rap, remains at the number four position on The Billboard 200 chart, where it debuted in the number one spot last week with 150,000 copies sold in the first week of release.

Purple Drain: Is It Time To Give Up On The Prince We All Want?

On the final Sunday of March, Prince released a three-CD set. Two of the albums are his music with his band; the other is by a young female singer, Bria Valente. He appeared on Jay Leno's Tonight Show the preceding Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to promote the package, which at present is only available at Target.

The CD entitled lotusflow3r is a pastiche of slightly hard rock, proggy, Hendrix-influenced guitar playing, familiar pop-rock, and powerpop. It certainly does not herald any new or different aspirations, and though it has an up-to-date production and "finish" to the sound and production quality, this recording may very well remind his longtime fans of Purple Rain. Or at least Purple Rain without anything as exciting as "When Doves Cry," or the more surging, ecstatic moments of "Let's Go Crazy."

While the contents are polished and well-played, and for the most part easy to listen to, this music makes me wonder if there is a marketing and audience grab involved, and if so, how many fans or former fans will bite? I also wonder if other listeners will respond like I did, and think that Prince didn't have to work very hard to make this record.

Purple Rain was a hit a long time ago--25 years?--and the crossover audience and crowds he drew began to thin out by the time he released "Alphabet Street," or at least that is how I've perceived the trajectory of his career over the past 20-plus years.

The other CD, mplsound, is more disappointing. It does not impress either as (funky) dance music or as pleasant R&B. It is actually kind of boring, which seems quite a damning thing to ascribe to music by Prince. BORING.

Is there still an audience for Prince the rocker, the guitar hero who seems bound to remind us that he can ape Jimi Hendrix? What happened to the Prince who made riveting soul, funk, and jazz-tinged R&B records? What happened to the funky, slinky, jazzy Prince on guitar? He showed some of that stripped-down flash at the end of his third night on Leno: crisp, clean, funky, chicken-fried licks, delivered with an old-fashioned, lean-and-mean tone, a tone you might hear a "jazz guitarist" using in an organ (B3) and sax trio or quartet. Now, this is the Prince I'm always excited about: a guitarist who can not only evoke the best aspects of funk and soul from 1966 to 1976, but who could also be the axeman in that B3 group, and burn it down like maybe no one else could but Melvin Sparks, or Rodney Jones, having a particularly fine night. There are moments of this evocative guitar playing IN THE BACKGROUND of tracks on mplsound, but nothing more.

Most of the lead guitar Prince plays on both discs is the "over-the-top-Hendrix"-sounding stuff, with lots of boost and sustain, and very little old-fashioned dirt, like it all comes from a pedal or a computer setting. Where has the invention and the lean, probing, rhythmic drive gone?

Now that I've mentioned rhythmic drive, where has that gone? To assembly line "church," since the drums and bass playing on these discs often resembles what gets churned out on commercial, run-of-the-mill, jubilee gospel recordings: little or no variation, no substitutions, no drive, and certainly no playing that can push a guitarist, much less interact with the playing. In sustaining some energy level, the rhythm tracks relate to the hum-drum, same-ole same-ole you can hear jumping from Christian channel to Christian channel on Saturday night or early Sunday morning: NOW AIN'T THAT GOOD NEWS?!

No, because there's more going on between the bass pedals of the organ player and drummer on a Davis Sisters 45 on Savoy than there is on both of these Prince CDs, as far as bass and drums goes. If this is "give up the funk," I'd rather listen to Denise LaSalle file her nails, because that would be some scratchy rhythm!

Now that's enough with the complaints because they beg the question; as long as Prince isn't going to push the soul-funk envelope, embracing the tradition--now that he is 50--is not such a bad idea. Can you imagine what it would be like if he strapped on that sky-blue Stratocaster--or better still, a Gibson Super 400--and opened with 10 minutes of Johnnie Taylor's "Little Bluebird"? And then continued in that fashion with a workout of Taylor's "Jody," in different tempo? Yeah, and he's got a four-piece horn section along with B3, bass, and drums. After "Jody" he's really hot and slams into "Sexy MF." Then a souped-up version of "Chelsea Rodgers," a stunning version of "She Loves Me 4 Me," which showcases his "soul guitar" playing, and he wraps it up with a pumping, over-the-top rendition of "1+1+1 is 3."

Yeah, it wouldn't be an hour-long set, but it would be a great one. At present, I don't think anything like this will ever happen, as Prince has kind of become enigmatic and perhaps unconscious. He needs to realize that his old music is still great, especially the increasingly funky and soulful material he has laid down beginning with Sign O' The Times through the recent Planet Earth--though some of what he's done since Rave Un2 The Dawn is cliché and ballast--embrace it, and embrace not just the tradition he clearly understands and cares about, but use it to push the envelope in new and different ways, establishing him as a funk and soul man that could blow away most of the retro "revues" that are out there playing for kids who think you can get good chicken-fried steak at Boston Market, or worse, who think that the expression "bone fish" is really a Fishbone EP they've never heard.

It really isn't worth continuing to dream, or pick at these two Prince CDs. He's not going to do that amazing "Jody" workout. He's not going to give up doing lazy, goopy-sounding, '"quiet storm-like" tunes that even Donny Hathaway couldn't have re-arranged into anything worth listening to. If you have most, or all of Prince's recordings, like I do, go ahead and buy it. I think you will agree that Planet Earth is much, MUCH better, and much less confused, less familiar and trite, by the man's own "standards," so to speak. I'd say the same for a chunk of Rainbow Children. So buy it, if you will; and if you do like it, please go on to discover some of his better music from this decade.

I have to give it up to ciara week. She dropping a Album and Music video snf Modeling too. Her youtube page is popping.

Here her BIO if ur not up on her.

Ciara Princess Harris (born October 25, 1985),[1] who performs under the mononym Ciara (pronounced "Sierra", IPA: /siˈɛr.ə/),[2] is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, fashion model, music video director, actress and soon to be a fashion designer. Born in Austin, Texas, Ciara made her debut in the summer of 2004 with the Billboard number-one single "Goodies". The album Goodies was released in the United States on September 28, 2004, and in the UK on January 24, 2005. It produced three top two singles on the Billboard Hot 100, selling three million in U.S[3] and over five million worldwide.[4]

Ciara's second album, Ciara: The Evolution, was released in December 2006. It has spawned the Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit "Get Up", and the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts top ten hits "Promise", "Like a Boy", and "Can't Leave 'em Alone". To date, the album, which went platinum only five weeks after its release, has sold more than one million copies in the U.S. and 2 million worldwide.

Ciara's third studio album, Fantasy Ride, is expected to be released in the United States on May 5, 2009.[5] The first official single, "Never Ever", features rapper Young Jeezy and was released in January 2009. The second single, the worldwide hit "Love Sex Magic" featuring Justin Timberlake, was released in March 2009. Since its release, the single has already debuted high on numerous charts, and also has been noted as potentially one of the biggest hits of Ciara's career.[6] Ciara cites Janet Jackson as her inspiration.[7]

Irv Gotti Says He's Dropping Ashanti From The Inc.

Irv Gotti Says He's Dropping Ashanti From The Inc.

Irv Gotti says he and Ashanti, the Princess of the Inc., will soon be parting company. He said they haven't been on speaking terms for some time, and the label head/reality-TV star says there's nothing he can do but end their musical and business affiliation.

"The relationship has run its course," Gotti explained earlier this week while visiting the MTV offices. "The chemistry of what's needed — we're in two totally different places. You're talking to somebody that took her and shaped and molded her and put her out there for the world, and it blew up. We [hold the record] for the [fastest] selling debut by a female R&B artist — 503 [thousand]. We did it! My views and philosophies and her views and philosophies are not meeting up."

Ashanti's last LP, The Declaration — her first in four years — came out in June of last year on the Inc. and was created with virtually no input from Gotti. The album was her first in-studio project not to go platinum. Gotti says it's because the singer deviated from their winning formula and tag-team effort.

"I personally believe for her to be successful, it took the energy ... when you seen her, it was 30 n---as around her, and she's the princess so nice and pretty walking through," he said. "The music was great, but it was the energy that was created. It wasn't just her standing there and singing a song.

"We don't really speak or talk or anything like that," he continued. "It's sad in a way. But in another, it's like it's all good."

Well, maybe not that good. Gotti said it is best for them to part ways.

"I don't think she can win. She needs some guidance with that," Gotti added. "But she's not thinking like that. Really, I couldn't tell you what she's thinking. So that relationship has run its course and honestly, I'm gonna just drop her."

At press time, a rep for Ashanti had not granted MTV News' requests for comment.

Gotti told MTV News that he's maintained the rights to all of his artists, including Ashanti, Lloyd and of course Ja Rule. The exec says he's working on a deal to reunite with his fellow Def Jam alumni Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald over at the Warner Music Group. He says new albums by Lloyd, new rapper Newz and Rule are in the cooker. He explains the delay of Rule's The Mirror is because they are trying to craft a classic LP.

Eminem Planning Violent Game For iPhone

Eminem Planning Violent Game For iPhone

Rapper Eminem has revealed a gaming application that could find its way into the iTunes application store.

The rapper announced the game on his Twitter page and posted a link to the game, which is also titled Relapse.

Eminem has had a tense relationship with iTunes.

The two have battled in court twice, the first time over a commercial that featured Eminem's track "Lose Yourself," the second over downloading royalties.

In 2005, Eminem’s Eight Mile Style publishing company agreed to an undisclosed financial settlement over an iPod commercial that featured “Lose Yourself,” without permission.

In March of 2009, FBT Productions, a company affiliated with Eminem, sued Universal Records in an attempt to get higher royalty rates on all digital sales through Apple’s iTunes App Store.

FBT argued that their tracks were “masters,” which were then reproduced as digital copies.

While Eminem was not a party to that lawsuit, FBT, he would have made millions, had FBT one the case, which went in favor of Universal, after a judge ruled that a sold online is no different than a song bought in a store.

It appears that the various legal skirmishes have not impacted Eminem's relationship with Apple thus far, although the rapper's proposed game may not help the relationship.

The screen capture of The Relapse game features a tattooed figure angrily approaching a skeleton or masked-liked figure, with a studded 2x4.

The game may not meet Apple's standards for decency, as similar apps like “Slasher” and “Murderdrome” have been rejected in the past.

More recently, an updated iPhone app from Nine Inch Nails was rejected, reportedly due to the lyrical content of their album The Downward Spiral.

Trent Reznor, who is currently protesting the decision, pointed out that iTunes carries the album in the store, yet has blocked the album’s application to iPhones.

Tomorrow (May 5), Eminem’s track "Old Time's Sake” featuring Dr. Dre will go on sale in Apple’s iTunes store.

No official word is available about Eminem's Relapse application. Eminem’s album The Relapse hits stores May 19.

Chris Brown Celebrating His 20th Birthday With Family and Friends

Chris Brown turned 20 years old on Tuesday, May 5 and he has decided to celebrate his birthday alongside his family in Virginia. A source reported that the R&B singer recently held a small birthday celebration and invited some of his friends and family in Virginia.

Last month, Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to two charges addressed to him after allegedly beating his Barbadian girlfriend Rihanna on February 8. At that time, his lawyer Mark Geragos told the judge that "more discovery was needed" in the case. The "Kiss, Kiss" singer was charged with felony battery and making criminal threats to the 21-year-old songstress just hours before their scheduled performance at 2009 Grammy Awards.

Most recently, Chris was reported spending quality time together with the "Umbrella" singer. "Chris was spending time with Rihanna," a source previously told Radar Online of the couple. Soon after that, they reportedly rekindled their love just before Rihanna headed to her hometown in Barbados.

Asher Roth - Asleep in the Bread Aisle

Rating:4.7 out of 5
Review: Asher Roth debut album "Asleep in the Bread Aisle" is a very good album indeed. Asher popped onto the scene with the debut single from the album "I Love College" which became the anthem of every college student. "Asleep in the Bread Aisle" was released on a very special day unlike all albums that are released on Tuesday. The album was released on a Monday. This being the release date being the day of all pot heads 4/20. This was because Asher being a weed smoker. The album fall heavily on a Rock type Hip-Hop style. Having a true sound of its own. Asher brings features from some of the best as Cee-Lo, Jazza Pha, and Busta Rhymes. Just to name a few of the major artist. Each song is different from the last, but all have a easy listening, mellow feel that is influenced by chronic smoke. This album is high recommended to any weed smoker, and person of curiousity.

Drake Signs To Universal Motown

XXL reports:

The bidding war is over. XXLMag.com has learned from reliable sources that red-hot rapper Drake has just signed a deal with Universal Motown. Word is that Interscope and Atlantic Records also put deals on the table for Drizzy.

The Toronto rapper reached a deafening buzz in the last few months with the release of So Far Gone, his third mixtape featuring appearances from Lil Wayne, Bun B, Trey Songz and Lloyd, among others. The mixtape has also produced a few fan-favorites, including “Successful” and “Best I Ever Had,” which is presently gaining momentum at radio stations, including New York’s Hot 97. Still high off touring alongside mentor Lil Wayne on his I Am Music tour, Drake recently embarked on his own So Far Gone tour—hitting markets like Chicago, Westchester, NY and more recently Atlanta.

The signing ironically comes months after the rapper addressed being passed over by Universal Motown on “Say What’s Real,” another standout track on which he spits over Kanye West’s “Say You Will” on So Far Gone.

“I’ve always been something that these labels can’t buy, especially if they try to take a piece of my soul/And Sylvia be tellin Tez, ‘Damn, Drake fly’/And he just be like, ’silly motherfucka, I know’/That was yo bad/How could you pass up on him/He just take them records and he gas up on em’/Wayne will probably put a million cash up on him/Surprised nobody ever put yo ass up on him,” Drake spat in reference to a conversation between Cortez Bryant, Wayne’s manager and Sylvia Rhone, Universal Motown’s president.

The signing comes a few months after Kid CuDi inked a deal with Motown. At press time, Universal reps had no comments on the signing.

Ciara Defends Keeping Chris Brown Duet On Her Album

Ciara Defends Keeping Chris Brown Duet On Her Album

Since word of Chris Brown's alleged altercation with Rihanna first broke back in February, a number of opportunities have slipped through Brown's hands in the aftermath. Wrigley suspended a Doublemint gum commercial campaign featuring the singer, he voluntarily backed out of the Kids' Choice Awards, and some radio stations even stopped playing his music.

But Ciara, with whom Brown burned up the stage at last year's BET Awards, decided to stick with him for her track "Turntables" from her album Fantasy Ride, which is released Tuesday. The move is a high-profile sign of support for the singer, along with T.I. insisting that Brown will still star in and make promotional appearances for "Takers" (formerly known as "Bone Deep"), for which the rapper is serving as one of the film's producers.

"You know what it is? Honestly, with that record, it's just more about the music for me," Ciara told MTV News last weekend. "I wanted to focus on the music and leave it at that, because it's a record that I've had for a while, I love the way it sounds and it's one of my most favorite records on the album. And if I alter it, it's not gonna sound the same. So for me, really it's nothing more than about the music, so I kept it there."

In the months leading up to her album's release, Ciara mentioned in previous interviews she had thoughts about tinkering with the record and perhaps removing Brown's vocals altogether. The synth-heavy number, produced by Timbaland protégé Nate "Danja" Hills, features the two performers trading sultry vocals about chasing the other down and turning the tables on their situation. The song seems ripe for a video, and while that probably won't be happening any time soon, Ciara is decidedly upbeat about including the hit on her album's final track list.

The decision, she said, was supported by her entire team.

"I'mma be honest with you, pretty much everyone on my team was supportive [of keeping the record on the album]. Because we knew what the whole reasoning of wanting to keep it was," she explained. "Being as though I was leaving it at that, I felt OK about that. When you listen to the album, from the beginning to the end, it feels good to you, and it just felt good to me. I could try to do it a different way and I even had moments where I played with it a little bit, but it didn't feel right. So it's all about what feels good to me, so that's why I kept it.

"It definitely took time [to make the final decision]," Ciara added. "In the decision-making process for the records, once you get down to the last few days, that's when you kind of know. It definitely took time, but [the question was] more if the record made sense for the album, period. And that's how I weighed all the records."

The 1st of 5 video to be released from "The New Coming" LP

I like to thank you for viewing "Shutter Shades On" video. I was at home bored playing around with my green screen. Its not much to it but its better than nothing. I want people to just know that the "The New Coming" reign has not end. Its still much alive and to those who been keeping it alive. I thank you. The video is very green screen low budget. I tried to do my best with a busted light, but its still a nice product in overall. Point of advice to those who use green screen. Never wear green glasses on a green screen. I knew that rule before recording the scenes but I didn't recognized that any green would be affected and well it does. So that why there are just dark black screen shots every time the green glasses scene comes up. I wanna thank Nick Elkin he is the original person who asked me for the song. Thats it. Two Words.... RUMOR: BEYONCE TO PLAY THE SHE-HULK IN THE NEW AVENGERS MOVIE!!!

Beyonce Knowles sure does work. There are rumors of her playing Wonder Woman, possibly Angela Davis and last year she was confirmed to play Eartha Kitt. Now, the Obsessed star, who earned a #1 movie at the box office last week, is allegedly trying to land the role of comic book character She Hulk, according to MediaTakeout.

Something is fishy about this story — earlier this month it was reported that Meagan Fox landed the role even though Oscar-winner Nicholas Cage, who is involved in the project, wanted Eva Mendez. Now the role might go to Bey?

According to Wikipedia: “She-Hulk has been a member of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes For Hire, Defenders, Fantastic Force, and S.H.I.E.L.D. A highly skilled lawyer, she has served as legal counsel to various superheroes on numerous occasions. Her cousin is Bruce Banner, better known as The Incredible Hulk.”

I’m not sure how I feel about Bey as She Hulk. But, she truly is the She Hulk of entertainment — she works like the rent is due and the lights are about to be shut off!

Could you see Beyonce as She Hulk?
